Physical DescriptionPolished undecorated whale tooth inset with a rectangular silver lidded box monogrammed with the letter "A." The silver box has an English hallmark for the town of Chester. The maker's mark is indeterminate. Imprinted "Barretson-Piccadilly."
Historical NoteThis piece was part of President Kennedy's personal collection of scrimshaw which he kept on his desk in the Oval Office of the White House.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem is from the personal collection of President and Mrs. Kennedy. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
