Physical DescriptionItalian amphora used to transport wine during the early Roman period, same as the amphora type Dressel 2-4. The amphora has a rolled rim, long neck, pointed handles, and pyriform base. There are marine encrustations on the surface indicating that it lie on the sea floor for sometime before its discovery. Sits on an iron three legged stand.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a member of the general public to the President and Mrs. Kennedy received by the Executive Office of the President betwen 1961-1963 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
