Historical NoteJohn F. Kennedy did not have a direct connection to the Arkansas River, but he did visit Heber Springs, Arkansas, on October 3, 1963, to dedicate the Greers Ferry Dam on the White River in 1963. The Greers Ferry Dam is part of the White River Basin, which is distinct from the Arkansas River. The dam was built for flood control, hydroelectric power, and recreation. This plaque was presented to President Kennedy on October 3, 1963 in Arkansas during his speech.
