Physical DescriptionShield shaped walnut wood plaque with the seal of the U.S. Naval Academy in relief in the center and a brass plate engraved :Presented to the Comander in Chief by the Brigade of Midshipmen on the occassion of his visit to United States Naval Academy.
Historical NoteOn August 1, 1963, President John F. Kennedy delivered a speech at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, to honor the new class of midshipmen. In his address, Kennedy emphasized the value of naval service, stating that any man who served in the Navy could respond with "good deal of pride and satisfaction" and that "this country owes the greatest debt to our servicemen". He also highlighted the vital role of servicemen in maintaining the nation's security and peace.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteThis plaque was presented to President Kennedy in August 1963 during his visit to the United States Naval Academy. It was held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in 1965 by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy.
