Historical NoteThis flier dating from the 1960 presidential campaign advertises the “Many Happy Returns: The Democrats’ Cook Book, or How to Cook a G.O.P. Goose.” Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook helped buy TV air time for candidates, including Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kennedy. "Any chow hound, whose taste runs from hamburgers in wine to caviar served with sliced black bread is in for a treat...." writes Frank Sinatra in the introduction reproduced in the flier. “Not only should every Democrat own a copy of this book, but he should load up all his or her friends, and even smuggle some copies into Pasadena and other points where the enemy is strong and square.”

The recipes in the partisan cookbook were written by politico's wives and their supporters. Among the contributors were Eleanor Roosevelt, actresses Lauren Bacall and Bette Davis, Mrs. Hubert Humphrey, and Ruth Ribicoff, the spouse of Senator Abraham Ribicoff. Jacqueline Kennedy contributed her recipe for waffles.
