Physical DescriptionKey to the city of High Point, North Carolina presented to President Kennedy. Gold colored metal key engraved along shaft "High Point / Founded 1851", reverse reads, "Jesse Washburn, Major / Furniture and Hosiery Center". The top of the key has the seal of the city of High Point, bottom of the key is a map of North Carolina.
Historical NoteThis key was presented to Senator John F. Kennedy by the mayor of High Point, North Carolina Jesse Washburn on September 17, 1960 as he arrived at a campaing rally at the Greensboro-High Point airport.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was presented to John F. Kennedy in 1960 and held by the General Service Administration until it was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
