The message is "Wish you a wonderful voyage Best wishes from us both. Forteviot." The back of the radiogram has an advertisement for the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.
Historical NoteRose Kennedy and her daughter Kathleen were among the passengers on the R.M.S. Queen Mary's maiden voyage in 1936. The Queen Mary was designed to be the Cunard line's fastest, most elegant passenger ship of the era. It provided weekly express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York. The Queen Mary remained in service until 1967, the victim of waning interest in transatlantic liners in the face of commercial airplane travel.
