Physical DescriptionIvory and inlay wood mosaic depicting a lively scene in a village market. Two women are negotiating by baskets of fruit in the foreground, another carries wares on her head, a man carries firewood, huts and trees are seen in the background.
Historical NoteThis mosaic was presented to President Kennedy by the president of Togo (1961-1963), Sylvanus Olympio, during his state visit to the White House on March 20, 1962.

Custodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
