Physical DescriptionWhale's tooth depicting Independence Hall in Philadelphia, with a heraldic eagle ridden by a personification of America above, and a portrait of a man at left, on front. The depiction of the Independence Hall includes the restored steeple, completed 1828, probably copied from a published engraving of that time. There are portraits of two women surrounded by foliage, roses, and grape vines on verso. The portraits were possibly copied from daguerreotypes of loved ones.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem is from the personal collection of President and Mrs. Kennedy. It was donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
