Born to John Anthony Notte and Eva Theresa (Rondina) Notte. John A. Notte began his career as a lawyer. In 1934 married Marie Joan Huerth. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the Governor of Rhode Island from 1961 to 1963. In addition to Governor, Notte served as secretary to U.S. Senator Theodore F. Green (1947-56) secretary of state of Rhode Island (1957-58), delegate to Democratic National Convention from Rhode Island in 1960, Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island (1959-60). He attempted to run as U.S. Representative in 1967, but defeated in primary.
