Abdul Rehman Chughtai
Painter, Pakistani, 1897-1975
Abdur Rehman Chughtai was born in 1897 and comes from a family which for generations has produced architects, engineers, painters and decorators. Chughtai has followed the characteristics of traditional Asian art by exporing conventions in his work such as the absence of shadows, a disregard for perspective and a deliberate exaggeration in the size of one object relation to others in the same picture plane.
Chughtai's art can be divided into three periods 1918 to 1927; 1927-1932; and the third from 1932 to time of his death.
