Vienna Augarten Porcelain Manufactory

established 1718
The Vienna Porcelain Manufactory was established in 1718, and was awarded exclusive right to produce porcelain in the Austrian crownlands by Emperor Karl VI. As a result of industrialization and rapidly growing competition, especially from Bohemian factories which had mass production methods, the imperial house closed the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory and placed it under museum administration in 1864.
When today's Augarten Castle reopened in 1923, it achieved a new highpoint with the Vienna Art Deco. Ever since 1718, the Vienna Porcelain Manufactory Augarten has cultivated the credo, "manu factum est", or made by hand, in the truest sense of the word.
