Herbert Sondheim (father of composer Stephen Sondheim) headed his own couture dress house on Seventh Avenue in New York city for more than 40 years. He began his manufacturing business under the Herbert Sondheim label in 1930. He taught at Parsons School of Design in 1946, his dressmaking business produced affordable versions of Parisian high-end fashion.
