Historical NotePresident John F. Kennedy and British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan discussed Berlin negotiations during the Berlin Crisis of 1961–1962. Kennedy and Macmillan issued a joint statement after meeting in Nassau in December 1962. The statement reaffirmed their interest in a settlement that would ensure Berlin's freedom.
