Historical NotePresident Kennedy advocated for a government supported health insurance program for the elderly, which faced strong opposition, especially from conservative politicians and the American Medical Association. This cartoon critizes those who opposed JFK's heathcare reform through the use of irony, emphasizing that ideological opposition to government healthcare doesn't help elderly patients when they truly need medical assistance. President Kennedy's efforts laid the groundwork for Medicare which was passed in 1965 under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
