Historical NoteJohn F. Kennedy proposed significant tax cuts during his presidency to stimulate economic growth through supply side economics. This cartoon highlights the political moment when JFK "hands the axe" over to Congress, implying the decision now lies with them to act on his proposal. Congress eventuallty passed Kennedy's tax cuts after his assasination under President Lyndon B. Johnson.
