Historical NoteJohn F. Kennedy is widely recognized for establishing the concept of a "Consumer Bill of Rights" in a speech to Congress on March 15, 1962, where he outlined four basic consumer rights: the right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to choose, and the right to be heard; essentially laying the foundation for modern consumer protection laws in the United States. Kennedy's speech led to increased focus on consumer protection legislation and regulatory actions by the government.
