Physical DescriptionCarved mahogany wood head and shoulders of a Fulani woman wearing an elaborate head piece over braided hair. The sculpture has a polished finish.
Historical NoteThis sculpture was presented at the White House by Jean-Marie Kone, Minister of the State Republic of Mali, as a gift for President John F. Kennedy on July 12, 1961.
Additional DetailsCustodial History NoteItem was a gift from a foreign official to the President and First Lady received through the Executive office during the Kennedy Administration and transferred to the General Service Administration where it was held until donated to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum by the Estate of President John F. Kennedy in 1965.
